Escape the chaos of the city and immerse yourself in the serene beauty of the Langtang region. Our 15-Day Langtang Circuit Trek Package is not just a walk in the mountains; it is a complete Himalayan journey. Starting from the lush trails of Syabrubesi, you will ascend into the heart of Langtang Valley, explore the spiritual Kyanjin Gompa, and challenge yourself with the high-altitude Gosaikunda Lake and Surya Kunda Pass before descending through the culturally rich Helambu region.

Perfect for trekkers seeking a blend of rugged adventure, Buddhist heritage, and stunning mountain vistas, all accessible just a jeep ride away from Kathmandu.

Trip Overview

The Langtang Circuit Trek is a 15-day loop through Nepal's Langtang region, over Surya Kunda Pass (4,610m), and out through the Helambu ridge to Sundarijal. You'll walk through Tamang villages, alpine yak pasture, the Gosaikunda lake system, and rhododendron forest on the descent, all without repeating your route. With a maximum trekking altitude of 4,610 m and a dedicated acclimatization day at Kyanjin Gompa (3,870 m), the route is carefully staged for safe altitude adaptation and maximum scenery. This Nepal trek suits trekkers who already have multi-day trekking experience and want more distance and altitude exposure than the standard Langtang Valley trek without the permit restrictions of Manaslu or Upper Mustang.

Who This Trek Is For

Suits you if:

You've completed at least one trek above 3,500m before and know how your body handles altitude

You want one route that covers valley, high pass, and alpine lake terrain instead of an out-and-back trail

You're comfortable with 6 to 8 hour trekking days on uneven terrain, including a long summit day over Surya Kunda Pass

You want fewer trekkers on the trail than the Everest or Annapurna routes, particularly past Gosaikunda

You have 15 days free and don't need to compress the itinerary

Skip this if:

This is your first multi-day trek. Try the 9-Day Mardi Himal Trek or the Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek (7 days) first.

You have fewer than 15 days available. The Short Gosaikunda Trek (3 days) or the standard Langtang Valley Trek (10 days) cover part of this same region in less time.

You have a diagnosed heart or lung condition and haven't cleared high-altitude trekking with a doctor. Surya Kunda Pass sits at 4,610m, and the itinerary spends five nights above 3,800m.

Trek Highlights

  • Walk the Langtang Valley under Langtang Lirung (7,227m), one of the most visually direct mountain approaches in Nepal, since the trail runs almost straight at the peak for two full days
  • Overnight in Kyanjin Gompa (3,870m) with an extra acclimatization day for an optional climb to Kyanjin Ri or Tserko Ri
  • Cross Surya Kunda Pass at 4,610m, the highest point on the route and a genuine high-altitude crossing, not a walk-up viewpoint
  • Visit the Gosaikunda lake system (4,380m), a Hindu and Buddhist pilgrimage site with over a hundred alpine lakes in the wider basin
  • Pass through three separate protected areas on one trek: Langtang National Park, the Gosaikunda lake basin, and the Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park buffer zone near Chisapani
  • Sleep in the same tea house network Tamang trading families have run for generations, with wood-stove dining rooms that become the warmest room on the route by Day 4
  • Trek through rhododendron and oak forest on the Kutumsang to Chisapani stretch, at its best from late March to April
  • Finish at Sundarijal, a one-hour drive from Kathmandu, instead of flying back or retracing your steps
  • Cover three distinct ethnic and cultural zones: Tamang communities in Langtang, mixed Tamang and Sherpa settlements around Gosaikunda, and Tamang and Hyolmo villages through Helambu
  • See yak herds grazing above Kyanjin Gompa in the pre-monsoon and post-monsoon months
  • Walk a full high-route ridge line from Lauribina to Ghopte with the Langtang and Jugal Himal ranges visible on clear mornings
  • Avoid backtracking on foot. Every day covers new ground until the final descent to the road at Sundarijal

Route Overview

The Langtang Circuit Trek route starts with a drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (1,550m), the trailhead for Langtang National Park in Nepal. From there, you follow the Langtang Khola upstream through Lama Hotel (2,500m) and into Langtang Village (3,430m), gaining altitude steadily over three trekking days. Kyanjin Gompa (3,870m) sits at the head of the valley, with a built-in acclimatization day and two optional side hikes.

You then retrace the valley as far as Lama Hotel before branching south to Thulo Syabru (2,210m), a Tamang village that marks the start of the Gosaikunda leg. From here the trail climbs hard through Lauribina (3,910m) to the Gosaikunda lakes (4,380m), the highest overnight stop on the trek.

Day 11 is the longest and highest day on the route: a 7 to 8 hour crossing of Surya Kunda Pass (4,610m) down to Ghopte (3,870m). From Ghopte, the trail drops through Kutumsang (2,470m) and Chisapani (2,215m) along the Helambu ridge, finishing with a forest descent to Sundarijal (1,400m) and a one-hour drive back into Kathmandu.

Why Choose Madcap Adventure for the Langtang Circuit Trek?

  • All guides on the Langtang Circuit Trek are Nepal Government licensed and carry current wilderness first aid training
  • Fixed departures run alongside private departures, so solo trekkers aren't forced to pay a private surcharge to join a group in Nepal
  • Locked-in pricing once your deposit is paid. No mid-trip cost changes if permit fees rise after booking
  • Free Nepal SIM card on arrival, pre-loaded with data, useful before you lose signal past Thulo Syabru
  • 24/7 support from our Kathmandu office for the full 15 days of your Langtang Circuit Trek, including the two days you're off-grid between Kyanjin Gompa and Lauribina
  • Porter hire at USD 20 per day covers two trekkers, which matters on a 15-day Nepal route where pack weight adds up

Why is Langtang Circuit Trek trending among trekkers in 2026/2027?

Closer to Kathmandu than any other major circuit in Nepal. You reach the trailhead in a single day's drive, no domestic flight required, no weather-dependent Lukla-style gamble on your schedule.

Fewer trekkers on the trail than Everest or Annapurna. Langtang sees a fraction of the foot traffic those two regions do, so tea houses are less crowded, and the trail itself feels quieter, even in peak season.

A licensed guide is now mandatory, and that has raised the safety baseline across the whole route. Since February 2025, every trekker on Langtang National Park routes must be accompanied by a Nepal Government-licensed guide, which means better route-finding support and a faster response if something goes wrong.

The region has rebuilt since the 2015 earthquake, and rebuilding shows. Langtang village and the wider valley were badly hit in 2015. What's there now is newer infrastructure and a community that depends directly on trekking income, so your visit carries real weight for local livelihoods.

You get high mountain scenery without an extreme altitude commitment. Kyanjin Gompa and the wider valley sit high enough for genuine Himalayan views, without pushing you into the altitude range where acclimatization dominates the itinerary the way it does on Manaslu or Everest Base Camp.

Strong Tamang cultural exposure, not just mountain views. Monasteries, chortens, and Tamang Heritage villages sit directly on the route, giving the trek a cultural layer that flatter, more purely scenic circuits don't have.

Shorter time commitment for a genuinely high-altitude Nepal trek. Most Langtang itineraries run 7 to 12 days depending on the route chosen, which fits a shorter holiday window than Everest or Manaslu without cutting corners on the experience.

2026/2027 timing works in your favor on cost. Booking a 2026 departure now, or locking in 2026 pricing for a 2027 date before December 31, 2026, protects you from the price increases that tend to follow as a region's post-earthquake recovery draws more attention.

Yak cheese, hot springs, and genuinely good tea house food. The Kyanjin Gompa cheese factory and the wider valley's food culture stand out compared to the more basic menus you'll find on newer or higher routes like Gosaikunda's Nuwakot side.

Three protected areas, one trek. Langtang National Park, the Gosaikunda basin, and the Shivapuri Nagarjun buffer zone in a single 15-day itinerary.

What is the cost of Langtang Circuit Trek in 2026/2027?

Package pricing for the Langtang Circuit Trek in Nepal runs from USD 1,075 to USD 1,550 per person for a group departure in 2026 and 2027. Where you land in that range depends on a handful of specific factors.

  • Group size: A private departure sits at the top of the range since guide, jeep, and permit costs split across fewer people. Joining a fixed group of four or more brings the per-person cost down, since those same fixed costs spread further.
  • Porter hire: Porter hire adds USD 20 per day on top of the package price and covers up to two trekkers. It's optional, but worth budgeting for on a 15-day route where cumulative pack weight adds up.
  • Season and departure timing: Peak-season departures (October, November, March, April) sit toward the higher end of the range since tea house rooms and jeep transport book out faster and lodges charge more during high demand. Shoulder-season and off-season departures can come in lower due to less number of trekkers.
  • Booking timing: The early bird structure applies on top of the base range: 15% off if you book 6 or more months ahead, 10% off for 3 to 6 months out. If you're planning a 2027 departure, you can lock in 2026 pricing by booking before December 31, 2026, with a 20% deposit.
  • Room type: Tea houses set the standard on this route, and private rooms aren't guaranteed above Lauribina, where lodge capacity is limited. This doesn't change the package price directly, but it affects comfort at the higher-altitude end of the trek.

Are Solo Trekkers and Female Trekkers safe on the Langtang Circuit Trail?

Yes. The Langtang Circuit is one of Nepal's more established trekking routes, with regular tea houses, other trekkers on the trail in season, and mobile coverage in most villages. A licensed guide is mandatory on this route as of February 2025, which removes most of the route-finding and isolation risk that solo and female trekkers worry about most. Solo female trekkers regularly complete this route without incident, and lodge owners along the way are used to hosting them.

Madcap Adventure can also arrange a female guide on request for this route, which some solo female trekkers prefer. Let us know when you send your booking inquiry so we can confirm availability for your dates.

Day 1

Arrival in Kathmandu

A private vehicle meets you at Tribhuvan International Airport and takes you to your hotel. The rest of the day is yours: rest, walk through Thamel, or sort any last gear. We include breakfast the following morning. This evening is a good time to withdraw Nepali rupees, since you won't find an ATM again after Syabrubesi.

Max Altitude: 1,400m (4,593ft)
Duration: 20 minute
Distance: Approx. 5.8 km
Meals: Breakfast
Accommodation: Hotel
Mode of Transportation: Private shared vehicle
Day 2

Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi

You leave Kathmandu early, typically around 6:30 to 7:00 am, and follow the Trishuli Valley northwest into Rasuwa district. The road is mostly paved, but the final stretch into Syabrubesi is rougher, with dust in the dry season and occasional delays after heavy rain. Bring snacks and a neck pillow if you have one. You arrive in the afternoon, with the evening free to settle in.

Terrain: Paved road, unpaved final stretch through the Trishuli Valley

Max Altitude: 1,550m (5,085ft)
Altitude Gain: 150
Duration: 7-8 hours
Distance: Approx. 120 km
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Accommodation: Tea house
Mode of Transportation: Private Shared Jeep
Day 3

Trek from Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel

Your first full day on the trail follows the Langtang Khola upstream through dense subtropical and temperate forest. The climb is steady with a few short, steep sections. Lama Hotel is a cluster of tea houses at the forest edge rather than an actual town, named for one of the original lodges here. This is where you'll first notice the temperature drop overnight.

Terrain: River valley trail through dense forest

Wildlife: Red pandas and Himalayan birds are occasionally spotted in this forest zone, most often early morning

Max Altitude: 2,500m (8,202ft)
Altitude Gain: 950m
Duration: 5-6 hours
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Accommodation: Tea house
Day 4

Trek from Lama Hotel to Langtang Village (3,430m)

This is a significant altitude gain day. The forest thins as you climb and the valley opens into wider views, with Langtang Lirung visible ahead for the first time. You'll pass through Ghoda Tabela, where yak herds typically appear, before reaching Langtang Village, rebuilt after the 2015 earthquake destroyed the original settlement. Take the walk through the village slowly. Most trekkers feel the altitude gain here, even mildly.

Milestone: First clear views of Langtang Lirung and entry into the upper valley. Village: Langtang Village, rebuilt after the 2015 earthquake, a place of quiet significance

Max Altitude: 3,430m (11,253ft)
Altitude Gain: 930m
Duration: 5-6 hours
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Accommodation: Teahouse
Day 5

Trek from Langtang Village to Kyanjin Gompa

A gentler gradient than the previous day, following the valley floor past mani walls and chortens with Langtang Lirung dominating the skyline for most of the walk. Kyanjin Gompa has a working monastery, a small cheese factory, and the best bakery selection on the route. You'll sleep here two nights, so let the afternoon be unhurried.

Highlight: Kyanjin Gompa monastery and the local yak cheese factory

Mountain views: Langtang Lirung, Kimshung, Yansa Tsenji, and Ganchenpo, all visible directly from the village

Max Altitude: 3,870m (12,696ft)
Altitude Gain: 440m
Duration: 5-6 hours
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Accommodation: Teahouse
Day 6

Acclimatization day at Kyanjin

Optional 1: Hike to Kyanjin Ri (4400m)

Optional 2: Hike to Tserko Ri (4984m)

Elevation: 3,870m / 12,697ft (Optional hikes reach higher)

Two optional hikes give this rest day real acclimatization value instead of a full day sitting at the same altitude. Kyanjin Ri is the shorter, more accessible climb. Tserko Ri goes higher and rewards a longer effort with a wider mountain panorama that on clear days reaches toward Shishapangma across the Tibet border. Start before sunrise. Clouds build from the valley floor by mid-morning and often close the view by 10 am.

Note: Don't skip the altitude day entirely. It matters for what comes later on the trek, including the pass crossing on Day 11.

Mountain views: Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa, and Shishapangma (across the Tibet border), plus the full valley below, from the Tserko Ri summit on clear mornings.

Max Altitude: 3,870m (12,696ft)
Altitude Gain: 600m-700m
Duration: 5-6 hours
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Accommodation: Teahouse
Day 7

Trek from Kyanjin Gompa to Lama Hotel

The return begins, dropping back down the same valley you climbed over the previous three days. The pace feels different heading downhill, and most trekkers make faster time than the ascent. Watch your footing on the rockier sections closer to Lama Hotel. Your legs will feel this descent by the end of the day.

Mountain views: Langtang Lirung stays in view for the first half of the day before the trail drops back into forest

Max Altitude: 2,500m (8,202ft)
Altitude Loss: 1370
Duration: 6-7 hours
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Accommodation: Teahouse
Day 8

Trek from Lama Hotel to Thulo Syabru Village

The trail climbs above the treeline into open alpine terrain. Gosaikunda is a glacial lake held sacred in both Hindu and Buddhist tradition, part of a wider basin of more than a hundred lakes. The lodge here is basic, and this is the coldest overnight stop on the trek. Carry a warmer layer than you think you'll need and keep your water bottle inside your sleeping bag overnight so it doesn't freeze.

Highlight: The Gosaikunda lake basin, a Hindu and Buddhist pilgrimage site

Mountain views: Langtang Lirung and Ganesh Himal, visible across the ridgeline above the lake basin on clear days

Max Altitude: 2,210m (7,250ft)
Altitude Loss: 290m
Duration: 5-6 hours
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Accommodation: Teahouse
Day 9

Trek from Thulo Syabru to Lauribina

A sustained, steady climb out of Thulo Syabru through rhododendron forest that thins into alpine scrub as you gain altitude. Lauribina is a small collection of lodges near the treeline. Nights here run noticeably colder than anything on the Langtang side of the trek, so have your warm layers accessible rather than buried in your pack.

Terrain: Rhododendron forest thinning into alpine scrub near the treeline

Mountain views: Ganesh Himal, visible on clear afternoons once the trail clears the treeline

Max Altitude: 3,910m (12,828ft)
Altitude Gain: 1700m
Duration: 5-6 hours
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Accommodation: Teahouse
Day 10

Trek from Lauribina to Gosaikunda

Max Altitude: 4,380m (14,370ft)
Altitude Gain: 470m
Duration: 5-6 hours
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Accommodation: Teahouse
Day 11

Trek to Ghopte via Surya Kunda Pass

Elevation: Surya Kunda Pass, 4,610m / 15,125ft. Ghopte, 3,870m / 12,697ft

This is the longest and highest day on the route. Most groups start in the dark, since the pass is exposed and wind picks up by mid-morning. From Surya Kunda Pass, the trail descends steeply to Ghopte. This day needs full acclimatization behind you, which is exactly why Day 6 matters. Guides build extra buffer time into the schedule specifically for this crossing.

Milestone: The highest point of the trek, crossed on foot rather than viewed from a side hike

Max Altitude: 4,610m (15,124ft)
Altitude Gain: 230m
Altitude Loss: 510m
Duration: 7-8 hours
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Accommodation: Teahouse
Day 12

Trek from Ghopte to Kutumsang

A descent through changing forest cover as you drop back below the treeline, following the Helambu ridge with the Jugal Himal visible on clear mornings. Kutumsang marks a noticeable shift back toward lower-altitude village life, with warmer nights than anything since Thulo Syabru.

Mountain views: Jugal Himal range, best in early morning before cloud builds

Max Altitude: 2,470m (8,103ft)
Altitude Loss: 1460m
Duration: 6-7 hours
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Accommodation: Teahouse
Day 13

Trek from Kutumsang to Chisapani

One of the more scenic forests stretches along the whole route, through oak and rhododendron forest that's at its best in late March and April when the rhododendron is in bloom. Chisapani sits on a ridge with views back toward the mountains you've just crossed.

Terrain: Oak and rhododendron forest along a ridge trail

Max Altitude: 2,215m (7,267ft)
Altitude Loss: 255m
Duration: 6-7 hours
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Accommodation: Teahouse
Day 14

Trek to Sundarijal and drive to Kathmandu

Mostly descending, this final trekking day ends at Sundarijal, where the paved road begins again inside the Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park buffer zone. A short private vehicle transfer brings you back into Kathmandu. We arrange a farewell dinner tonight to close out the trek.

Max Altitude: 1,400m (4,593ft)
Altitude Loss: 815m
Duration: 4 to 5 hours trek, 1 hour drive
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Accommodation: Hotel
Mode of Transportation: Private shared vehicle
Day 15

Final departure

Breakfast at the hotel, then a private vehicle takes you to Tribhuvan International Airport at your scheduled time. Trek done.

Max Altitude: 1,400m (4,593ft)
Duration: 20 minute
Distance: 5.8 km
Meals: Breakfast
Mode of Transportation: Private vehicle

Itinerary Flexibility
This itinerary can be adjusted before departure: add extra time at Kyanjin Gompa, or combine it with the Tamang Heritage Trail before starting the circuit. Tell Madcap Adventure your dates, fitness level, and preferences when you book.

Guide Decisions on Trail
Surya Kunda Pass (4,610m) can close with snow or high winds. Above 3,800m, altitude sickness is a real concern; your guide monitors closely. In these situations, your licensed guide can delay the pass crossing, add a rest day, or reroute the group if needed. This is standard trail judgment, not a formality.

Essential Information

Difficulty and Fitness

The Langtang Circuit Trek is moderate. You'll trek 6 to 8 hours a day for most of the route, with two consecutive high days: Gosaikunda at 4,380m and Surya Kunda Pass at 4,610m the following morning. Terrain shifts from forest trail to rocky moraine to exposed ridge line, sometimes within the same day.

Prior trekking experience above 3,500m is strongly recommended before you take on this Nepal trek. If you haven't trekked at altitude before, the standard Langtang Valley Trek (10 days) or the 9-Day Mardi Himal Trek are better starting points.

Best Time to Trek the Langtang Circuit in Nepal

The Langtang Circuit is best trekked in spring (March to May) or autumn (late September to November) for clear skies, blooming rhododendrons, and full lodge and trail infrastructure. Monsoon (June to August) is also an option if you want a genuinely lower price and don't mind rain, leeches, and limited mountain views. Winter (December to February) is trekkable too, but we recommend it only for experienced, cold-weather trekkers given the freezing temperatures and possible snow-related lodge closures at higher points on the route.

Permit Cost for Langtang Circuit Trek 2026/2027

Three permits are required for the Langtang Circuit Trek in Nepal, which will be arranged by Madcap Adventure.

PERMITS FOREIGN RATE SAARC RATE

Children under 10 are exempt from the Langtang National Park Entry Permit. A licensed guide has been mandatory for all Langtang National Park entries since February 17, 2025, enforced at trailhead checkpoints.

Accommodation and Food on Langtang Circuit Trail

Accommodation runs from standard hotel rooms in Kathmandu to tea houses and lodges throughout the trek. Rooms above Lauribina are basic, usually twin-share with shared bathrooms, and unheated outside the dining area. Dal bhat is the most reliable meal at every elevation: rice, lentil soup, and vegetable curry, with unlimited refills at most tea houses. Menu variety narrows noticeably above Gosaikunda, where supplies are carried in on foot or by mule.

Safety and Altitude on the Langtang Circuit Trek

You'll spend five nights above 3,800m on this Nepal trek, including one night above 4,300m and a pass crossing at 4,610m. Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) risk is real above 3,500m and doesn't correlate with fitness level. Your guide carries a pulse oximeter and monitors symptoms daily, and the itinerary includes one built-in acclimatization day at Kyanjin Gompa. Travel insurance with high-altitude trekking and evacuation coverage is required for all Madcap trekkers. Read our full altitude sickness guide for symptom recognition and prevention.

Why is Travel Insurance a must for the Langtang Circuit Trek?

The Langtang Circuit route crosses Surya Kunda Pass at 4,610m and sits well beyond road access past Lauribina, so helicopter evacuation is often the only option if a trekker can't continue on foot. You need a policy that specifically covers high-altitude trekking and helicopter evacuation up to at least 4,610m. General travel insurance often caps altitude coverage below this and won't pay out. Madcap Adventure confirms your booking only after we've seen proof of valid insurance, since your safety comes first.

How to Prepare for the Langtang Circuit Trek?

  • Physical preparation: Start cardiovascular training at least 8 weeks before departure, ideally with a loaded pack.
  • Medical checkups: Get checked out if you have any heart, lung, or blood pressure history before crossing 4,610m.
  • Insurance: Book a policy covering high-altitude trekking and helicopter evacuation up to at least 4,610m before you travel.
  • Cash and ATMs: Withdraw Nepali rupees in Kathmandu or Syabrubesi. There are no ATMs past Syabrubesi.
  • Gear: Pack for temperatures well below freezing at Gosaikunda and on the Surya Kunda Pass crossing.
  • Connectivity: Carry a power bank. The signal is inconsistent past Thulo Syabru.
